Frequently Asked Questions

Does grayscale reduce file size?

Not always. Every page becomes a JPEG image, so a scanned PDF often gets smaller while a text-only PDF can get larger. A lower resolution and quality give a smaller file.

Does this preserve bookmarks and form fields?

No. Pages are redrawn as images, so text in the result is no longer selectable, and bookmarks, links, form fields and annotations are not carried over. Keep the original if you need them.

What PDF versions are supported?

Any PDF the built-in pdf.js renderer can open, from PDF 1.0 to 2.0. The output is a new PDF with one image per page at the original page size.
