Frequently Asked Questions

Can the note be read more than once?

Yes, by anyone who has the link. The browser that opens it marks the note as read and will not show it again, but no server holds the note to delete it, so another browser or device with the same link can still open it until it expires. Use a password and a short expiry for sensitive notes.

What if the link is never opened?

Nothing is stored anywhere to delete; the note exists only inside the link. The expiry you choose (1 hour, 24 hours by default, 7 days, or none) is sealed inside the encrypted note, and this page refuses to show the note after that time.

Is this cryptographically secure?

Yes. The tool uses the Web Crypto API for cryptographic operations, providing the same security level as native applications.

Where is the note stored?

Only in the link. Many note services keep the encrypted note in their database and hand you a link to that record. This tool encrypts in your browser and packs the ciphertext into the URL fragment (after the # in the link). Browsers never send the fragment to any server, so there is no copy on our side to breach or subpoena. The trade-off is that no server can delete the note either: whoever holds the link can open it until it expires, and the "already read" mark lives only on the device that opened it.
