About DXF Viewer
Loft DXF Viewer opens .dxf drawings in your browser, with no CAD program to install. It draws lines, arcs, splines, text, dimensions, hatches and blocks as sharp vectors, and shows either the model or a paper-space layout with its title block. Turn layers on and off, measure between two points, and save the view as SVG, PNG or a one-page PDF. The file is read on your device and never uploaded. It opens ASCII DXF from AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD, FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion and Inkscape.
What it does
- Draws lines, arcs, circles, polylines, true splines, ellipses, text, dimensions, hatches, solids and points as sharp vectors
- Expands block inserts with their position, rotation and scale
- Model or paper space, so you can read the drawing or the printed sheet with its title block and viewports
- Layers panel to show or hide each layer, or all of them at once
- Entity-type filter to hide whole kinds of objects, such as text or hatches
- Measures the distance between two points, in drawing units
- Bounding-box overlay with the drawing's overall width and height
- Exports the current view as SVG vectors, a PNG snapshot or a one-page PDF sheet
- Takes files up to 200 MB
- A sample drawing to try before you open your own
How to use DXF Viewer
Open your DXF
Drag a .dxf file onto the page, or click Open and pick one. No file to hand? Load the sample drawing.
Find your way around
Drag to pan and scroll to zoom. Press F to fit the whole drawing. If the file has a layout, switch from Model to Paper to see the sheet.
Show only the layers you need
Hide or show layers in the Layers panel. The Entity types panel hides whole kinds of objects, such as text or hatches.
Measure
Press M or click Measure, then click two points. The distance appears in drawing units and is listed in the Measure panel.
Export
In the Export panel, save the current view as SVG, a PNG snapshot or a PDF sheet.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need AutoCAD to open a DXF file?
No. Drop the file on this page. The viewer reads the drawing in your browser, so you need no CAD program and no account. It opens DXF files saved from AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD, FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion, Inkscape and other drawing programs.
Can it open DWG files?
No. DWG is AutoCAD's own binary format, and this viewer reads DXF only. In AutoCAD, use Save As and pick a DXF file type, or run the DWG through a DWG-to-DXF converter, then open the DXF here.
Which DXF files does it read?
ASCII DXF, the text form that AutoCAD and most programs write by default. Binary DXF is not supported, so save the drawing again as ASCII DXF if it fails to open. The viewer draws lines, arcs, circles, polylines, splines, ellipses, text, multiline text, dimensions, hatches, solids, 3D faces (seen from above), points and block inserts.
What does it not draw?
True 3D objects such as meshes, ACIS solids and regions, raster images, and leader lines. Pattern hatches show as a light solid fill rather than the pattern itself. When the viewer reads an object but cannot draw it, such as a hatch or a layout viewport it cannot parse, a notice in the side panel says how many were skipped.
Can I see the layout with the title block?
Yes. When a file has a paper-space layout, switch from Model to Paper. You see the sheet with its title block and notes, and each viewport shows the model at its own scale.
Can I measure distances, and in what units?
Press M, then click two points. Each distance is listed in the Measure panel. Distances are in drawing units, the same numbers the drawing was made in. A DXF does not always record which unit that is, so check the title block when it matters.
How do I convert a DXF to SVG, PNG or PDF?
Open the Export panel. Export SVG saves the current view as vectors you can scale or edit in Inkscape or Illustrator. PNG snapshot saves an image of the view. Print to PDF saves a one-page sheet with that image plus the entity count, layer count and drawing size.
Is my drawing uploaded anywhere?
No. The DXF is parsed and drawn in this browser tab, and the file never leaves your device. That makes it safe to open a client's drawing on a shared computer.
Does it work on a Mac or a phone?
Yes. It runs in a current browser on Windows, Mac and Linux, and on phones and tablets, with nothing to install.
